Where to Next? My Upcoming Adventures

I can tell I’ve been in one place for far too long when I start browsing Skyscanner with the destination set as “Anywhere”. I really wish I were at a place in my life where I can plug in a random destination, search for the cheapest dates, and just go. Unfortunately I have two jobs, a full class schedule, and very limited funds. But that doesn’t mean I can’t make time for travel. I’ve already traveled a lot this year and I have a lot of trips coming up.

What I’ve been up to

I kicked off 2017 in a jungle treehouse in Guatemala, spotted sloths in Costa Rica, sipped coffee in Seattle, climbed mountains in B.C. Canada, and ate my way through Detroit. And it’s only August. Here’s what’s coming next for this travelingleaf.

Where to Next?

Apostle Islands

A post shared by @apostleislandscruises on

My boyfriend’s family has a cabin in a tiny town called Cable, Wisconsin. If you’re familiar with the big bad Midwest it’s about an hour south of the Apostle Islands area. Near the end of August we’ll be spending a couple nights at the cabin. We’re hoping to do some kayaking near the apostle islands and get R&R before the semester starts.

Camping at Devil’s Lake

Another badass area of Wisconsin is Devil’s Lake. It’s near Baraboo and the Wisconsin Dells. The rock formations and natural beauty of this area are out of this world. I always thought Wisconsin was just another flat, ugly midwest state until I visited Devil’s Lake. There’s some great hiking and camping spots nearby. We’re camping out there for the very last weekend of August. We’ll do some hiking, swimming, and general campy activities.

Belize

I planned on doing an international trip this summer but life got in the way. I had already booked a ticket to Belize so I decided to just postpone the trip for November. I’ll miss some class but it’ll be hard to worry about it while I’m swimming with manta rays and sunning myself on an island hammock. I know I want to base myself in Caye Caulker for at least half the trip but the other half is completely open ended. Comment if you have any suggestions on things to see/do in Belize!

Spain

Every time I mention this trip I get met with some eye rolls. Probably because I start out by saying I have to study abroad again to graduate in time. I’ve already been fortunate enough to spend a semester in Thailand and winter break in Guatemala. I have a pretty high language requirement with my major and so to finish up the last of my credits I have to take them all in Spanish or stay in school for another semester. Naturally I’d rather spend a semester in Spain than put off graduating again.

SO I will be spending an entire semester in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. This will be my last semester of college — fingers crossed.

All Around Europe

You think I’m going to spend 4 months in Spain and only see Spain? I will be taking weekend trips to neighboring countries and all over Europe as much as possible. Here’s what’s on my unrealistically long list:

  • Portugal
  • Morocco (not in Europe but so close to Spain)
  • Greece
  • Italy
  • Austria
  • Romania
  • Bulgaria
  • France
  • Ireland
  • Scotland
  • Iceland

Realistic? No. But I’ll visit as many places as I can. I may extend my trip beyond the semester if funds allow for it.

Let me know in the comments what you’re up to next!
